Contrary to our expectations tickets for seats inside the court room were given away quickly and without problems. Starting at 7:30 in the morning, individuals received one ticket per person without getting their id checked or giving their names. The tickets are not personalised and can thus be given to other persons during the course of the day. The first three rows in the room are reserved for media – it is also possible for reporters to reserve tickets beforehand (which is not possible for “normal people”!).
It is forbidden to make phone calls or any kind of audio/video recording inside the court room, sending text messages is possible and FM4 (a radio station) twittered live from inside the court room during the first day of the trial (http://twitter.com/Burstup – German) – it will continue doing so according to the FM4 reporter.
The defendants were greeted in front of the court in Wiener Neustadt by a solidarity protest with many participants. While inside the courtroom declarations of solidarity could be heard in the form of chants and
music, outside in front of the windows balloons imprinted with “Smash §278a” flew by along with posters that were taped to the stings.
In numerous cities there were solidarity protests, for example in Munich the Austrian Consulate was occupied.
The first reports to the opening of the trial in German can be found on Indymedia and Twitter. Over the course of the day there will be further solidarity protests and actions, soon there will be a short report on the first day of the trial here on the antirep website.
